This is a OCR application that is invoked from the command line for converting scanned documents in BMP image format to machine readable ASCII text that can be edited.
VeryPDF BMP to Word OCR Converter is a Command Line application uses Optical Character Recognition technology to OCR BMP documents to editable Word files. There is no need for the Adobe Acrobat for making this work successfully. Besides the BMP format it can also handle many other image formats that include TIFF, BMP, PNG, JPG, PCX, TGA, etc. When invoked, you can specify if you need a single page, a range of page numbers from the source document or all of the pages of the same. This application also supports German, French, Spanish, Italian and other languages. The command line execution mode allows the application to also be included into others, if you want to.The program is capable of extracting text even from encrypted documents.
The original document layout formatting is retained, there need not be any worry on that count. The quality of the OCR conversion process will largely depend on the quality of the scanned image and the clarity of the characters of that image. So some preliminary processing may be required before the pages are submitted for the conversion. De-speckiling and de-skewing are two operations that will need to be added to the work flow. The product works with Win95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista/7. With a large scale OCR conversion business, this kind of tools are very useful.
